The Land

To love a place is not enough. We must find ways to heal it.

Robin Wall Kimmerer

Nestled in the rolling hills of the Ozark Highlands, Kindred Forest is located on over 100 acres of woodlands. With a history that dates back to the Osage people as its stewards, this area once flourished as oak woodlands and savannas. Unfortunately, the arrival of European settlers led to extensive logging, the introduction of invasive species, and a decline in wildlife populations. Over time, the land changed hands, belonging to a timber company and a family, before coming under our active stewardship.

We are facilitating the ongoing healing of this land through various sustainable practices, including the reintroduction of prescribed burns and removal of invasive species. We hold a deep belief in the reciprocal relationship between humans and the land. Just as we find healing and connection through nature, we also recognize our responsibility to nurture the land, working to revitalize its biodiversity and overall health.

WHAT OUR GUESTS SAY

"There is deep sense of serenity as you enter the land. It felt like a blanket of calm and peace, and a loving invitation to be in balance, beauty and harmony. Much care and attention has gone into cultivating a warm, versatile space, connection to the earth, and contemplation of our relationship in nature. Our stay was enriching and restorative, and the forest bathing experience was sublime. I am grateful for Jo’s calming presence and facilitation style. It was a delight getting to engage with the entire host family. I enjoyed every part of our retreat and I look forward to returning."
